Kike and Tayo - Traditional Wedding 42

You should be well introduced to Kike and Tayo by now (we’ve featured their journey to the altar, starting with the proposal here). The couple celebrated once again with a traditional Yoruba wedding ceremony at the Oriental hotel in Lagos, Nigeria. Kike as you may know, is a popular style blogger and I’m sure we were one of the many eagerly waiting to ogle her fashion choices for her wedding. She did not disappoint. Her first outfit was a laser cut lace iro and buba ensemble by THE Deola Sagoe. Dare I say our fashionista has started a trend. Prepare to see more laser cut looks this season. Anyway, here’s Kike and Tayo’s uber fabulous affair. We’ll share their wedding sometime in the coming months. xo

From the Bride:

A Traditional Yoruba Wedding usually takes place before the White Wedding or Church Ceremony. The entire ceremony is orchestrated by two individuals or representatives who are chosen or hired by each family. The Traditional Wedding reminds me a lot of our culture and the importance of a man seeking permission to marry a  woman, from her parents as well as bringing gifts to persuade them and to show her worth.
We decided not to have a specific theme for our Traditional Wedding, instead we agreed on colours and allowed our Mothers to run wild and free! They did an amazing job, the décor was breathtaking and we had the perfect day.

My hands down favorite memory of the day was dancing into the venue and seeing my husband to be, waiting for me on stage. The first thing he said to me was “You look beautiful!” *blush*

Another favorite memory of mine was our guest artist, Olamide’s performance. He handed me his microphone after a while as he realized I knew his own lyrics better than he did!

Advice for brides on the planning process:

This is one of the most annoying statements you will hear as a bride-to-be but it’s the truth -the ceremony is only for a few hours! Don’t sweat the small stuff; as long as there is a lot to eat, drink and the music is great, you have nothing to worry about. Just sit back and enjoy one of the most amazing days of your life with your partner.
